Happy Thanksgiving!

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

As we all know, the first Thanksgiving took place when the New England settlers came together to celebrate friendships, food, and their new lives in America.

On this Thanksgiving, all of us at Shelby wish each of you a safe, happy, and restful holiday. We hope that you all have a wonderful day and remember all of the blessings in your life and all that you are thankful for.

We will be closed Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 so that we can celebrate with our friends and family. We will reopen on Monday, November 28.

Easter Sunday

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Just as other religious holidays have done, Easter is quickly becoming secularized with non-religious symbols such as bunnies, candy, eggs, and candy eggs. The true story of Easter and why we celebrate it, however, is something much bigger to rejoice in.

Romans 1:4-5
And Jesus Christ our Lord was shown to be the Son of God when God powerfully raised Him from the dead by means of the Holy Spirit. Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey Him, bringing glory to His name.

An Easter Poem

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Time to decorate with pastels, bunnies, and sheep,

Feed the kids chocolates, jellies, and Peeps.

With the flowers all blooming,

And the Easter eggs hidden,

Remember the reason

We all are forgiven.

From Everyone here at Shelby Systems, we hope you have a very happy Easter!

St. Patrick’s Day

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Much like Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by people of all races and religions, but was actually started hundreds of years ago from… you guessed it… a saint.

St. Patrick is probably the most widely recognized saint of Ireland. According to History.com, he held religious feasts each year on March 17, which also happens to be the day that he died.

The holiday comes during the time of Lent, a Christian tradition that lasts about 40 days and leads up to the Easter holiday. Lent represents the time that Jesus spent in the desert fighting temptations.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Although Valentine’s Day is not thought to be a religious holiday… (and can be celebrated and respected by anyone that is not currently scorned by love) it was in fact named after the Catholic priest, St. Valentine.

Unsure of what the true story is, there are a few interpretations of how St. Valentine came to represent such a beloved holiday (pun intended):

  • One rumor states that St. Valentine helped tortured Christian citizens escape from Roman prisons.
  • He was also said to have performed private marriage ceremonies to young couples during a time when Emperor Claudius II banned young men from marrying due to the need for more soldiers in the Roman army.

Happy New Year!

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

2011 - Woop!Well, Christmas is over and 2011 is quickly approaching… in like 3 days. I don’t know about you, but for me, the year seemed to fly by all too quickly. On behalf of everyone here at Shelby, we hope that 2010 was a happy, fulfilling year for everyone and that 2011 is even better.

Best wishes and blessings to you all!

    2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Merry Christmas to All

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Well, it’s Christmas in only three days and I hope everyone has avoided the stress and crowds that come along with this special holiday. It’s a great feeling when you have everything done and you can sit down with family and friends and finally celebrate what the season is really about: the birth of Christ. It’s easy to get caught up in all of the chaos, but this is a time to take a deep breath, get closer to God, and rejoice in the blessings that you have.
